Yep completely agree with Matt. Too many travellers associate Bangkok with Khao San Road, cheap guest houses and seedy nightlife. If you travel to Bangkok and end up staying in a cheap guest house near Khao San you might get the wrong impression.
If however you stay at a hotel near Sukhumvit and take the BTS Skytrain to get around you will get a completely different feel for this city. For starters the tourists are often dressed worst of all, while the Thai youth are seriously trendy and fashionable.
You want to buy a Ferrari in a shopping mall? Sure no problem in Bangkok!
You want to enjoy a fantastic cocktail from a rooftop bar on the 63rd floor of a skyscraper? A few options available actually.
You want to go clubbing? Go party with the locals at RCA/Rachada Block D, in Slim & Flix (the most funky toilets you will have ever seen in a club) or go for a mixed crowd at Bed Supperclub and Q Bar.
I wrote quite a lot about Bangkok and Thailand after my many holidays there, so if you're ready for quite some reading (just skip the bits you don't need) and some real practical tips >

Cheers and enjoy the weekend all

Woo! Matt is absolutely right! International DJ's do make frequent stops here. Just last night was Benni Bennasi and soon Tiesto is coming back again already. They must enjoy the hospitality here.
Was just out at Central World today and the amount of models just prancing around was awesome. Gotta love it!
