I recently got my ass handed to me in an interview I did with world famous copywriter Chris Haddad. Ok, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but it did sting a bit. Chris is one of those genius guys, the kind that can write the most amazing sales copy you’ve ever read. Just for sport, and if you’re chosen, he will critique your sales letter. Chris agreed to critique mine and I agreed to allow him to record it for the world to see. This process was about as fun as a root canal. Here’s an example of the maestro in action.
One of the questions that Chris asked me (which is the crux of this entire post) was, “Who are you writing this sales letter to?” In other words, who is Jet Set Life’s target market demographic? I quickly responded that we have two market demos. The Jet Setter who buys our Secret List and the aspirational Jet Setter who joins our Muse Membership (our discussion was about the muse membership page).
Chris then asked me to describe the person as if he or she were sitting in front of me. Exactly who would he be and what would he want? I said that he we would probably be a 30 year old guy working in a cubicle that is married with two kids living in the suburbs, that hates his job and wants to live a jet set life. Sounds perfect, right? Sure, except for one thing, my wife didn’t agree. So, I began to investigate. Did you ever have one of those things that gets under your skin and you just can’t stop thinking about it? Well, this was exactly that such thing for me. I went back and reviewed a few of the emails I received from new members of Secrets of Successful Muses. I wanted to look for clues to who they were and what they were after. Eventually, after much digging, I found that I didn’t know what the hell I was talking about! I had no basis to draw those original conclusions. I just assumed them. And yes, I was wrong!
My search found a commercial airline pilot, an aerospace design engineer and a painter. Not one of them worked in a cubicle. In fact, many of them were serious professionals. What did they all have in common? They were all tired of swapping hours for dollars and wanted more. The “more” part is what they (we) all had in common.
I realized that everyone who is into having a jet set life wants the same thing. To have time and money to do what they love – travel. We can create all the videos and guidebooks of the all the jet set sexiest places on the planet, but if you don’t have those two currencies, time and money, you’re going to be watching from the sidelines.
I realized that the Jet Setters that I had been reaching out to is not who I thought they were. Woops, talk about a big mistake.
So, let me hear from you. Who are you? Step forward and identify yourself. Dramatic, I know. Reach back out to me in the comment section and tell me who you are and what you’re after so I can create what you want and need. Then, hopefully next summer, we’ll be sipping a cool glass of rosé together while gazing out at the Aegean.

On another note, we’re going to do a Jet Set Life get together in Florence, Italy on New Year’s Eve. If you want to be added to the list, add your name and email in the comment section.

I work at a hotel making pretty good money, I also do affiliate marketing and own An eBay business to compose 20% of my income. I am 29. The one thing I DO have is time. I am currently sitting in an airport in San Diego waiting to fly out to to Naples.
However, what I want out of your site is a means of increasing online revenues in order to REALLY jet set. I want to keep my job making 70k (I like to work) but would also like to make 70k on the affiliate side.
See ya in Amalfi!
Rob, I am an Entrepreneur that never gives up yet has not found the right formula to live the life that I long for. I started a cleaning service in 1998 after 20 years in the corporate world. Our cleaning service is still in operation and has been very successful. At our peak before the economic demise we were almost at a half a million a year in sales. Which is great for a business where 70 percent falls to the bottom line. After the downturn I found myself back in the seat of the cleaning van along with the few employees that I retained. At 45 years of age this is not where I want to be. Now the business is beginning a slow rebound and I recently hired some new staff. However, I have come to the realization that I have only provided myself with another “job”.
Back in October of 2008, along with my Son, we founded ReferralNetworX.com. This is a business that I really enjoy. We have experienced fairly strong growth, yet we still have not shown a profit. Although I love working with people and educating on relationship building. It is because of relationships that I was able to drive our cleaning service to great heights in a short period of time. I know that with time and consistency, Referral NetworX will be a tremendous success.
All that being said, I still feel like there is more! Even though I sometimes feel like I’m drowning and overwhelmed, I know that there has to be other ways that I can capitalize on my drive and my talents for passive income.
That’s who I am! And I know so many more like me. We are all striving for the lifestyle of the jet setter and yet the clock keeps on ticking. I don’t want to wait until I’m 60 to enjoy the wonders of this world. So my mind keeps turning over and over trying to figure it out.
By the way, thanks for all your great information that you provide. I love your site and like to look through all the photos of the exotic locations. Keep up the great work.

Hi Rob,
I would say that I am slightly different to the two people that posted above and rather than focusing on the money side of things would like to hear more about your jet setting.
I am a young male with quite a good corporate job and want to travel (jet set) with my girl friend.
I am really interested into the intricacies of how you travel and especially jet set “without a million dollars” in the bank.
I know that time and money are certainly something you have to free up. Although I am not completely free from working 9-5, I can still manage to free up some time and income.
But am curious to find out things such as:
• General travel mindset to travel for longer than a normal holiday
• How you stay healthy when travelling, including what you eat
• How you go about balancing work when travelling (I am imagining small amounts of up keep are still required)
• Do you stay hotels or serviced apartments, and why?
• How you choose your locations
• How you limit expenses (in general)
• What you do when you travel to the same places. i.e. do you continue to site see or set your self with different activities etc. etc.
• In general I would be after more global (generalized info) tips as I am in Australia and would visit hotspots such as asia and pacific islands, so am less interested in the hotspots that you would normally head to.
So that’s my demographic. Hope it helps.
All in all I love the blog, site and what you guys are promoting.
All the best and hope to catch you at some point in the future.
Hi Everyone thanks for the comments:
@Slade:
Hi Slade,
Thanks for the feed back. Since time is not a challenge for you it sounds like creating a muse to generate income for your jet set life is what you need. Let me know how your affiliate marketing is coming along!
@Walt:
Great story of not giving up! As you have found out swapping hours for dollars is a losing battle. If you have all the pieces in place for your muse you should be quickly moving towards replacing your income and living the jet set life that your after. This time you’ll be using the power of the internet to leverage it. Keep me posted on your success!
@Schmidty:
Thanks for the honesty on your demo. I have written down what you would like to see more of and I’ll definitely create some posts on it.
P.S. Asia is in the works:)
Hey there Rob,
I did the corporate suit and tie gig right out college and after a semester as an intern then full-time out of school, I decided that I needed the MBA to get ahead there. Problem was I hated the suit and tie corporate gig.
I’ve always loved outdoors where there are no florescent lights and know the world is too big to stay in one spot seeing the same things everyday. So I left that world to find out what it is that I really love, problem is that really didn’t pay the bills initially, so I started studying as and working in personal training as well as graphic design.
Currently as graphic designer and at 25 am looking to develop the muse to begin the “Automation” part of the jet-set life. I’m working both freelance and for an internal design group to get some of the school loans paid off. Luckily I am still able to both, research and test various muses and still have a life, but I’ll tell you what, this will be one of those great challenges that you look at after with a sigh and a smile. Thanks for all the information you place out here, it is a real inspiration.
Hi Rob.
I am a university student in europe. I’m just scared of the 9to5 job that awaits me on the end of my studies. I’d rather would like to continue this college lifestyle (lots of time, no money, limited mobility) or even upgrade it to the jetset lifestyle (lots of time, enough money, maximum mobility).
“I said that he we would probably be a 30 year old guy working in a cubicle that is married with two kids living in the suburbs, that hates his job and wants to live a jet set life. ”
Describes me almost perfectly, except I have one kid and I’m 38. I don’t have time or money to go to the exotic places I’ve dreamed of…
Rob,
I am a 27 year old Technology Consultant working a long term contract. I enjoy the challenge of the things I do but would love to have more time on the beach. I have started blogging and exploring different muse development. Thanks for being an inspiration.
Jonathan
Got to love it
Hey Rob, I was that married guy – now that I’m single I am actually quite a bit more motivated to get involved in the places I’ve always wanted to travel to. I’m an owner of a 1 man company, have been making money with a small web hosting design business – 50/50 working/passive income since 2004. The main thing I want to focus on is marketing and business growth, so I can really take advantage of the Jet Set/4 hour workweek/laptop offiice lifestyle. Love what you and Kim do, keep doing it!!
